A Fountain Hills youth was one of two teens killed in a multi-vehicle collision at Shea Boulevard and the Beeline Highway Tuesday evening. A boy, age 15, has been identified at Nicholas Minard of Fountain Hills. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Kaillie Plante, age 14, of Pine, Ariz. was pronounced dead at the hospital after the collision.
Two adults and a third pediatric trauma patient were taken to hospitals as well as an additional patient, according to Rural/Metro Fire Department. None of the injured victims have been identified by authorities.
According to reports the truck was traveling south on SR 87 about 7:30 p.m. when it failed to stop at the traffic light at Shea Boulevard and struck a vehicle making a left turn from Shea onto northbound SR87. The vehicles reportedly crossed into the northbound lanes south of the intersection striking two other vehicles waiting to make a left onto Shea. It is uncertain which vehicles the victims were in at the time of the accident.
SR87 reopened after the accident at about 4 a.m. on Wednesday.
