Unacceptable

I was raised as a conservative Catholic. Sixty-seven percent of adults in Arizona are of various Christian faiths. Thirty-three percent of adults in Arizona are of non-Christian faiths or have no affiliation at all. This means that one out of every three adults in Arizona are not Christian. (pewforum.org/religious-landscape-study/state/Arizona)

Representative John Kavanagh’s behavior at the House floor session on Feb. 11, 2019, was absolutely unacceptable. Mocking Representative Athena Salman, who doesn’t have the same religious beliefs as he does, was unbecoming of a state representative. This is a prime example of why politics and religion should never mix.

The Arizona House should be a place known for inclusion and acceptance, not mockery of differing religious beliefs or lack thereof. I demand a public apology from Representative Kavanagh. I also ask that he be reprimanded by Speaker Bowers.
