A “Christian” attorney from Liberty Counsel recently proclaimed she will take her gun to Target’s restroom for protection against attack by transgender people. Unbelievable!

My first thought was, “with all the ‘accidental’ gun deaths, what could possibly go wrong?” Then I thought, “Wait a minute. How many attacks have there been by transgender folks in bathrooms or anyplace else for that matter?”

Did transgender people just appear out of nowhere over the past few months? How did we go to bathrooms safely before? Were we just lucky not to have encountered a transgender person? Or did we encounter them but didn’t realize it? These questions need to be answered in the wake of the current hysteria. And it is hysteria.

At the Tea Party Candidates’ Forum, one of the questions asked was “What are you going to do about protecting our wives and daughters from transgender people using the restrooms in Fountain Hills?” Local pastors even preached about boycotting Target because of the risks of encountering a transgender person.

What do they think “transgender” means? Do they think people just decide to change sexes in order to prey on others? Do some research. Trust science, not irrational fear.

Gender identity, sexual assignment and sexual attraction are not black and white. These attributes are dependent on a great number of factors such as the amount of testosterone the fetus is exposed to, the combination of chromosomes and just the luck of the draw. The mind and the body don’t always align properly. Trans people have to live with a gender identity that doesn’t match their sexual assignment. That’s all!

The idea of a “Christian” picking up a gun to prevent being attacked by transgender folks is such an un-Christian solution to a problem that doesn’t exist and is just plain wrong!
