The wall signing ceremony that begins construction of the 28th home by Verdes Habitat for Humanity is at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 18, at 1967 E. Don Carlos Avenue, Tempe.
The Esteban family has been selected to be the owners. Maria, a single mother of three, has always dreamed of owning her own home but with today’s housing market she didn’t know how she could ever make that happen.
“My mother has always been a support to me and my children; she encouraged me to apply for the homeownership program,” she said.

Maria’s heart is with her family; her mother brought the family to America from Mexico City to offer them a better future with opportunities.
Maria is an account specialist for a local bank. Her oldest daughter, Yurizi, wants to become a graphic designer, son Caleb is thinking about construction and Zuri dreams of becoming a veterinarian.
Maria said she still can’t believe the huge blessing that the Verdes Habitat home will be to her family. They will be able to say, “We have our own home.”
Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that helps families in need of a house and provides assistance to families to make a house affordable.
Donations for the Verdes’ project can be made through the Arizona Qualifying Charitable Tax Credit by donating $421 for an individual and $841 for joint filers before April 15, 2024.
Mail checks payable to Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona and note on the memo line, Verdes’ Project. Every dollar counts. Mail to Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona, Attn: Verdes’ Project, P.O. Box 39730, Phoenix 85069.
