Veterans Day honors those who serve

Program at Fountain Hills Veterans Memorial Nov. 11

The veterans organizations of Fountain Hills invite the public to pay tribute to those who serve their country with military service at the annual Veterans Day ceremony at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at the Veterans Memorial in Fountain Park.

Originally designated as Armistice Day in 1938, the day was set aside to primarily honor those veterans of World War I. The proclamation stated, “this date should be commemorated with thanksgiving and prayer and exercises designed to perpetuate peace through good will and mutual understanding between nations.”

Following World War II the designation was changed to “Veterans Day.” Veterans Day is among those special dates to retain its designated date of Nov. 11 as the official holiday.
