Ms. Quernes’ letter regarding the vicious dog attack to her animal elicits a lot of empathy. It is not the first dog attack we have heard of here. I doubt, however, that the town can do anything further to hold bad animal owners responsible for their animal’s actions.

I recall an incident in Scottsdale Chaparral Park where a pit bull charged out of his house and destroyed a poodle that was on leash. The result was a fine for having the animal off leash.

I have found that however friendly an owner says his dog is, avoid contact with all dogs. Lots of people want their dogs to meet other dogs and say “hello.” I avoid this always. Don’t trust other animals no matter what the owner says. Dogs also have their own personalities and sometimes just don’t like other dogs.

Susan, you have had a terrible experience. Hope your animal is OK.
