Viola Bernice Howes, a two-year resident of Legacy Manor group home in Peoria, passed away while under Hospice of the Valley care in Scottsdale on June 25, 2013.
Viola was born in Miesville, Minn. on Aug. 12, 1918. She graduated from St. Cloud Nursing College and joined the Navy as an Ensign Navy Nurse during WWII. She worked as a nurse for 40 years, retiring from Kaiser Health Group in California.
Viola lived in Long Beach, Calif. until 1986 before moving to Fallbrook, Calif. In 2003 she moved to Arizona to be closer to her son Bob and wife Sandie, formerly of Fountain Hills.
She is survived by her three sons: Bob (Sandie), Joe (Denise), Roger and a brother, Fr. Eugene Plaisted OSC.
She was preceded in death recently by grandson Rob Howes of Fountain Hills.
She is survived by grandchildren Natalie (Dicla), Matthew (Misty), Sarah (Alex), Heidi, and Alison (James) and many many, great-grandchildren that lovingly called her “Gramma Vi.”
A Mass will be said by her brother Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills to be followed by a burial service at the National Cemetery in Phoenix.
Messinger Mortuary of Fountain Hills handled the arrangements.
