Volleyball playing at championship level

It was another good week of playing Falcon Volleyball for the second week in a row.

“Instead of only glimpses of playing the right way, we’re seeing a lot more consistency in the effort, focus, and attitude needed to play to our potential,” said Coach Peter McGloin. “I’m really encouraged by this and the team is starting to show it can play at a championship level.

“We’ve got more room to grow, though, and should have our full team together next week for the first time all season, with two and a half weeks left to get to where we need to be.

ASU Prep

This was another game against a developing program, with a new coach this year. McGloin said he is pleased that for the most part the team stayed focused and made good plays when the opportunities arose.

Corrin Schulze really stood out in this game with her incredible serving. She finished them off in all three games ... coming  into the third one with the Falcons up 12-8, she served out until to the 25-8 win.

“Our season-record holder for aces last year finished with 11 aces tonight,” McGloin said. “Lauren Schultz also had a good game, with three aces, and a team-leading nine digs.

Casteel

This was a much tougher test for the Falcons, but the team played the match with spectacular aggressiveness and focus, McGloin said. “We kept a pretty good team from playing to their potential; another step in the right direction.

“We controlled tempo throughout with great serving and a fast offense, and made a lot of great defensive plays as well.”

Coach said this was a great overall game with contributions from everyone. Paula Iwaoka led our passing and defense, and set the tone in the first game by getting an impressive 11 points off her serve. KC McMahon had another big night offensively with 20 kills, but also passed well and played great defense. So many players made noteworthy contributions in this one.

Next up is the Lion’s Den Invitational in Tucson next Friday and Saturday.
