The Falcon volleyball team added two more wins to its season total last week, handily beating squads from Show Low and Wickenburg to ride a bit of momentum into fall break.

The team was on the road yesterday evening to take on Snowflake and will be back in action on the home court tomorrow, Oct. 17, to welcome Cortez for a 6 p.m. match.

The final week of the regular season begins next week with a road match against Moon Valley Tuesday, Oct. 22. That match is also set for a 6 p.m. start time.

Show Low

The Falcons had little trouble putting Show Low away last week, going on to claim three straight wins in their match-up on the home court Tuesday, Oct. 8.

The local ladies were a little sluggish at the start but, once they got the wheels turning, they had little trouble earning their win in three quick games.

The Falcons bested Show Low 25-18 in game one and 25-19 in game two before going on to finish the job at 25-13 in game three.

According to head coach Brennan O’Connor, the local team was a little surprised at how easily they were able to handle their opponents.

“We started a little slow, but Show Low is a better team than what we played that night,” O’Connor said.

“I was impressed with how we were able to beat them in three games, which is a credit to our girls. They played really well.”

Jalin Yoder led the team in kills this outing with 12, followed by Morgan Difelice at 6.

Gabby Mei provided 18 assists while Difelice and Haley Braun added three and two aces respectively.

Braun also helped out with 15 digs on the evening with Yoder and Difelice adding eight apiece. McKenna Schultz helped out at the net, offering up two blocks.

“Once we got midway through the first game, we played well as a team,” O’Connor added.

“Serving was once again our strong point. Difelice and Mei also both had real nice games.”

Wickenburg

The Falcons continued play the very next evening, Oct. 3, but at least had the luxury of playing yet another home game as the local ladies welcomed the team from Wickenburg.

The Falcons made short work of their opponents in games one and three, beating Wickenburg 25-11 and 25-12. The visitors fought hard in game two, however, battling back and forth with the Falcons until the game’s narrow 25-23 conclusion.

“We got out to a strong start right away and played well,” O’Connor said.

“Everyone got to play this game, with our reserves playing almost the entire second game. Everyone contributed to our success and I was able to see what some of our other girls can do in a game situation, which was nice.”

Yoder did well on offense this outing, providing 14 kills, with Difelice adding four of her own.

Mei was ever at the ready in the middle, providing 21 assists, while Braun and Difelice provided 16 and five assists respectively.

Difelice also put in six aces with Yoder, Kelly Pedersen and Paige Greenly all adding a block to their season stats.

“Pedersen has been starting for us as a middle hitter for a few games now and she’s doing really well,” O’Connor said.

As for how the game turned out, he added that a win seemed like a strong possibility going in.

“We played Wickenburg at the beginning of the year and beat them 3-0,” O’Connor said.

“We’re a better team now, so we felt confident we could do it again.”
