By now, many people know that I ran as a write-in for mayor rather than collecting signatures earlier because our dad became ill and ultimately passed away. In addition, it wasn’t until after the June 1 deadline that it became apparent that there were no other candidates.
That said, with only one name printed on the ballot, 2,784 voters chose not to mark it and 1,957 people wrote my name in and connected the arrow. By collecting 3,947 votes, Linda Kavanagh received only 59 percent of the votes cast (6,731) again, with her name the only one on the ballot.
I bring this up not only in hopes that she and the new Council will lead with respect for all of their constituents – given that her election was hardly a mandate – but that by extension, our Legislature will lead with respect, as well.

For decades, many laws that erode local control, public education, healthcare and civil rights have been championed by Sen. John Kavanagh and Representatives Ugenti-Rita, Lawrence and those before them.
We still have a chance to insure inclusive, mature, intelligent and reasonable law-making from LD23 by electing Tammy Caputi to the House.
Tammy is a successful business owner, wife and mother of three in the public school system. She is focused on opportunity, community, a strong economy and quality education.
This block of one-sided, entitled, ideological and unresponsive Legislators needs to be balanced by someone who recognizes that we are a large District filled with diverse ideas and goals that deserve consideration. Tammy takes very seriously the responsibility that comes with the honor of serving all of us in Scottsdale, Rio Verde and Fountain Hills.
