OPINION — Allen Frank of Scottsdale wants to give Fountain Hills voters advice on how to vote in our town council and mayor elections. Frank points out that Democrats are outnumbered, yet these positions are non-partisan by statute.
They are non-partisan because managing a town has nothing to do with party affiliation. The totally partisan current council majority has inserted politics and spent their time discussing things like making English our official language, making sure we don’t accept anything diverse, equitable or inclusive, making homelessness a crime and making sure there are no restrictions on the proliferation of political signs. Did you know someone can plunk a sign down in front of your house and there’s not a thing you can do about it?
Democrats have always been outnumbered in Fountain Hills, yet plenty of registered Democrats have been elected to serve the town. If party affiliation is all that matters, then how on Earth did Ginny Dickey get elected twice to council, thrice to mayor, twice to school board? Obviously, it was with Independent and Republican votes. She even beat Republican Arpaio. Twice!
