I have lived in Fountain Hills for 34 years and this is the first time I feel compelled to write a letter to the editor. I am 100 percent against the property tax increase.

Sure, when MCO controlled this town, they set up the property taxes to be high, built substandard roads and did not tell people about the expansive soil problems. That is the past.

Now we have a town government that cannot seem to live within its means. They have all their pet projects instead of fixing the things that really need fixing. They contracted for very expensive studies for everything, tried our own law enforcement, which did not work, and on and on.

Now, because they blew the money over the years, they want us to pay for it.

Take a look at your taxes. I did and they have been going up 5 percent every year for years. Now they want an additional 16 percent on top of that, which will stay that way forever. Don’t you wish your salary, investments, pension or Social Security did that?

Are you planning to live in your home the rest of your life? I haven’t heard the realtors chime in on this, but how much harder will it be for someone trying to sell a home when we have this increase in our taxes?

For the people that say our property taxes are cheap compared to where you came from, maybe the party running this state is more efficient than the party from the state you came from. I’m from Illinois and I don’t compare that states ridiculous taxes to ours.

Please compare apples to apples, not apples to oranges. Please join with me and make our government responsible for the way they spend our money. Vote no for the tax increase.
