Voting issues

We had the pleasure of talking with many voters while giving out info for Ginny Dickey at two polling places on the 30th. We noticed some issues with the voting.

During the four hours at the Community Center, several people came expecting to vote there, since it was the only place to vote the last time, and were told they had to vote elsewhere. Some people questioned whether they would have time to drive to another place to vote. If this happened throughout the county, enough votes could have been lost to sway an election.

This kind of confusion should never have happened, and was the fault of the ineptness of Helen Purcell and Michele Reagan. Ms. Purcell needs to be voted out. Elect Adrian Fontes in November for County Recorder, so we can have rational decision-making in the Recorder’s office.

Another issue was that multiple voters had no idea of the development plan for downtown, and were horrified that a special exemption had been made to construct four-story buildings with hundreds of apartments. A couple of people had recently moved to Fountain Hills, expressly for the small town atmosphere and lovely views, and were stunned that this was changing.

The current mayor and several Council members seem adamant about destroying the reason many people move here. If residents don’t take the newspaper, they have no idea what is going on.

Our local non-partisan election should not be included on partisan ballots, as mandated recently by the state. This is especially problematic for Independents. The state (with the support of John Kavanagh) has taken upon itself to dictate to local municipalities how we should run our towns. Local decisions should be made at a local level—not by the state “Big Brother.”
