Voting issues

“I have a solution in search of a problem!”

This statement could very well have been made by Republican legislators in 31 states; states which have passed over 80 new voter registration laws.

When governors and other leaders are asked to provide “facts” to support their actions they get a case of the harumphs, clear their throats, then say something inane like “We’re doing everything to protect the sanctity of the vote.” Oh to be so pure of heart!

I have a thought. Being from Wisconsin I have first-hand knowledge of what happens every fall as men and boys let their beards grow, get out their rifles and shotguns, and sit staring at the calendar waiting for the hunting season to open.

I think all hunting licenses should be cross checked with voting records to see if any of the licensees returned to town and cast a ballot. I raise this issue because it would be highly suspicious if any hunter left his/her rustic surroundings in order to do something as mundane as voting. Why aren’t Republicans pursuing this line of thought?

In thinking further about this totally unsubstantiated political affliction I find it interesting that “it” stops at state lines. Like a bad itch, only Republican- controlled state houses have contracted the malady. I would have prescribed a salve rather than enacting 80-plus rules of behavior.

Bottom line? Voting irregularities in this country are a non-existent, made up, excuse by Republicans to do what they do best: pass statutes which benefit their political party.

While this is hardly unique to the GOP, in this instance a line has been purposely crossed, decimated in a cynical attempt to retain political power. It’s about utilizing procedural technicalities in an attempt to control the vote. This is wrong!
