Walls

Since 2000 B.C., many civilizations have built long, foolproof defensive walls to keep their enemies from entering the country and to keep citizens from escaping. The walls were often not effective and did not serve the intended goal because the fools were so ingenious, they defeated the walls.

If the lessons of history are correct, there is a high probability that the proposed great Mexican wall will not be effective. If the wall is constructed, the purpose should be to create jobs and profits for companies who build the wall and as a tribute to President Trump.

Examples of previous Great Walls are:

*The Sumerians’ Amorite Wall was built in 2000 B.C. to separate Sumeria and the Amorites. It succeeded for a few years, until the Amorites learned to penetrate it and go around the wall.

*The Great Wall of China was started in the third century B.C. It was a 20,000-kilometer network of individual walls, up to 25 feet high, and built to defend China from the steppe nomads and other enemies. However, the wall was often not effective in keeping out invading armies.

*The Maginot Line was built by France in the 30s to deter invasion by Germany. It consisted of concrete fortifications, obstacles and weapons. The Germans, at the start of WW2, penetrated France by going around the end of the wall.

*The Berlin Wall was erected in 1961 to separate East and West Berlin. It was opened to traffic between the two cities in 1989 because thousands avoided it by tunneling under it or flying over it in ultralight planes and homemade hot air balloons.
