OPINION — Rusty Childress is correct that Arizona faces a water crisis, but the only solution is to use a lot less water, stop housing development in far-out Surprise, Queen Creek and Buckeye, and end the Republican limited government and de-regulation that created this problem.
Democrats like Governor Katie Hobbs have a plan to establish more water management districts to monitor and reduce pumping, which is the only way to prevent depletion. She also proposes a tax on data centers to fund water conservation and recycling, which are real solutions that will work.
Sadly, rural Republicans criticize this as "government overreach," but their businesses and agriculture supporters let this problem fester while in power the previous 50 years.
