The Tonto National Forest is closing roads across the forest as a series of winter storms is dropping rain and snow across central Arizona. Storm runoff is also causing creek crossings to become impassable. Forest personnel are closing gates to Forest Roads on the Tonto National Forest, and urging motorists not to travel on Forest Service roads during these storms.
Slick, wet dirt roads are not only a safety hazard, but driving on them when they are wet can cause severe damage to the road, requiring the road to stay closed until the damage can be assessed and repaired. Individuals who have a need to travel on any Forest Service roads over the next few days are encouraged to contact their local Forest Service office for additional information.
