Early Saturday morning at the time of the weekend storm there was a major power outage affecting all of Fountain Hills and Rio Verde, as well as parts of Scottsdale and Paradise Valley.
SRP spokesman Scott Harelson said the outage impacted 5,000 SRP customers and nearly all had power restored by 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Harelson said they are not attributing the outage to the weather conditions, although he said it is possible.

Weekend power outage affects thousands

Early Saturday morning at the time of the weekend storm there was a major power outage affecting all of Fountain Hills and Rio Verde, as well as parts of Scottsdale and Paradise Valley.
SRP spokesman Scott Harelson said the outage impacted 5,000 SRP customers and nearly all had power restored by 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Harelson said they are not attributing the outage to the weather conditions, although he said it is possible.
The outage was caused by the failure of a major piece of equipment at a substation serving a 69,000 volt line.
Harelson said the system has dual 69Kv lines to allow for backup in the event of equipment failure. However, he said one of the two lines was down due to the pole replacement project in Fountain Hills.
As of Monday morning power was restored using the backup line and the damaged equipment was being repaired.
