Weekend storm pounds Fountain Hills

Wind damage to trees

Fountain Hills was hit by its most significant monsoon storm of the year late Saturday into early Sunday morning, Aug. 17-18.

The town was pounded by heavy rain and hail accompanied by high winds around midnight into the early morning.

Up to an inch or more of rain fell in the area with .98-inch at Fountain Park. Wind gusts over 60 miles per hour accompanied the rainfall and uprooted several trees and snapped others like toothpicks in Fountain Park and around the area near El Lago and Saguaro boulevards.
