Welcome back

Summer is officially over, and it seems like things are already getting a bit busier around town as families return from vacation, youngsters return from camp and those who fear the most punishing rays of sunshine once again venture outside of their homes.

This evening, Aug. 9, the Fountain Hills Unified School District Governing Board will host its first meeting of the new school year, just one day after the 2017-18 academic year kicked off. Business is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the District Learning Center.

Similarly, the Town Council is back from a brief summer vacation, ready to get things rolling next Tuesday, Aug. 15, at 5:30 p.m. in Council chambers. Consider this your umpteenth reminder that the Council is meeting on Tuesdays (rather than Thursdays) moving forward, during the first and third week of the month.

Around town, local churches seem to be settling into their regular schedules now that their congregations have returned in full force and various clubs and organizations have come out of summer hibernation in order to begin another year of hosting events, fundraisers, activities and the like.

That is, of course, just the tip of the ice berg. It may take a few more weeks for everybody to get moving full steam ahead, but we’re about to venture back into the busy season once again here in Fountain Hills.

We hope folks will take this opportunity to get out and get involved. Drop by one of the meetings listed above and get a first-hand look at how your local government and school district operate. Check out the local clubs and maybe sign up to become a member. Volunteer a few hours with any number of the local organizations dedicated to an equal number of worthy causes. Drop by the local events and enjoy some time with neighbors.

Summer was nice and relaxing, but now it’s time to kick things back into high gear.
