The Chinese festival was a waste…

I really looked forward to the festival since I am very interested in Chinese culture. In fact, I told my husband I wanted to get there by 4 p.m. because I was sure there would be so much to see.

First I went to see the Tai Chi demonstration and later the martial arts one, only to discover everyone involved was Caucasian and the teachers seemed to be there mostly to drum up business for their schools. One even said that his school was the only one to teach a certain type of martial arts.

There were only a few Chinese people there and they were the ones who had a small selection of Chinese food. The other merchants were selling candied apples, kettle corn, cactus edibles and jewelry (non-Asian).

The “presents” you got with admission were primarily very cheap Chinese toys. The lanterns were pretty but certainly not worth the price of admission.

I’ve since told everyone I come across not to bother going, and everyone I’ve met who did go to it said they told everyone they saw not to go. I’m sorry you’re stuck with this thing for three years; I don’t think many locals will go next year.

You may have made a lot of money this year, but that’s only because we were ignorant of what little we would get for our money.
