“Up to three months of total bedrest” is what the doctor told me to expect following foot surgery. Of all my concerns, the biggest one was Sam. My dog.
I live by myself. Total bedrest and a dog that needs to go out at least twice a day. Do you see my concern?

Karen Bergan is someone you should know…

Enter Karen Bergan. Sam and I have been going to the dog park for years. You see a lot of the same people all of the time. One in particular was a woman who always had the same two dogs and one or two different dogs every time!
Timing being everything, at the park one morning, here comes this woman with her two-and-two. I asked her if she “pet sits.”
“Yes,” she says.
I go on to tell her my situation. Karen tells me that she will get Sam out twice a day and most times she will take him to the park. Oh, did I mention that Karen is a nurse at the V.A. in Phoenix?
When Karen was on duty, J.D., her son, made sure Sam got out. Thanks J.D.!
Having healed, Sam and I are back at the dog park four to five times a week. I see Karen with her dogs. I see someone who is happy.
It’s rare, but truly wonderful people do exist. Why do I say this? Because Karen Bergan is someone that I know!
