Wheelchair donated to VFW Post 7507

An oversized wheelchair has been donated to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 7507.

The donation honors the late Wilbur Honnor, a Korean War veteran. His children, Carol and Ron Hoffman, donated the wheelchair to be loaned or given to veterans and families of veterans who are in need when equipment is available.

These mobility devices include wheelchairs, knee scooters and crutches, which are donated and loaned without regard to VFW or any other veterans organization membership and solely based upon need and availability.

Founded in 1899, VFW is the nation’s oldest major veteran organization with more than 1.7 million members.

Post 7507 is the local Fountain Hills, north Scottsdale and Verde communities chapter of the national VFW organization.

The Post has been recognized as both an All-American and All-State Post for its service. Its mission is to honor the dead by helping the living through veterans’ service, community service, national security and a strong national defense.

VFW Posts participate in several activities to help veterans and/or their families in need while also promoting patriotism among the youth of the community through such programs as Voice of Democracy, Patriot’s Pen, Teacher of the Year programs and by hosting Boy and Girl Scout troops.

Post 7507 has a continuing relationship with patients at the local VA hospital and the Arizona State Veteran Home. Members of VFW Post 7507 have also contributed time, money and tools to various programs for homeless veterans, including the Madison Street Veterans Association in downtown Phoenix.

Post 7507 also sells “Red Shirt Friday” shirts, operates a Beer Garden during each of the town’s festivals and hosts an annual golf tournament to raise the funds required to carry out its mission of helping others.

As a part of its public outreach program, VFW Post 7507 participates in various town events such as the Thanksgiving Day Parade as well as the Memorial Day, Veterans Day and Pearl Harbor Day commemorative ceremonies at the Fountain Hills Veterans Memorial. It also hosts funerals/memorial services for veterans and conducts flag retirement ceremonies.
