Past Fountain Hills Town Councils had various profitable financial opportunities at their disposal which were not pursued, such as purchasing the water company and going into the sanitation business. And also, sadly, abandoning the good idea of the Marshal’s Department.
The immediate past town council barely avoided its lagoon fiasco. Gilbert, as mainline competitor, is building its 260-acre theme park with which Fountain Hills would have been unable to recover from such financial competition. One misstep after another is not the way to succeed.
So which enterprise is still available to pursue? “Necessity is the mother of invention.”

An acknowledged problem is maintenance of our roads. Most thinkers know that within a problem lies its answer. And necessity should direct the town toward our roads by building a road building department that maintains, but more so rebuilds, our roads, including building new roads.
The present town council appears to be rather myopic with regard to its road maintenance and completely fails to see any positive aspect of road building as a newly adopted enterprise.
I am assured there are newly-developed road building machines on the market – globally positioned road building robots – to take up and put back down asphalt roadway, in situ, by reconstituting with bitumen and solvents, etc. Laser scanning of roadways for detailed mapping. Testing methods and road building standards from our national agencies are all available.
The town needs firm direction and must “dare to be great.”
