Congratulations to those who stand up for or against an issue in our town. Your right to make your feelings known is a basic American right. But as only in song can one ask, it does make me wonder, “Who are you? Who, who, who, who? I really want to know.”
You see, according to Arizona Election Law § 16-905, Committee qualification;
B. An entity shall register as a political action committee if both of the following apply:
1. The entity is organized for the primary purpose of influencing the result of an election.
2. The entity knowingly receives contributions or makes expenditures, in any combination, of at least one thousand dollars in connection with any election during a calendar year.
You guessed it. With all these signs and newspaper advertisements, just who is it that is making these statements? And it would be nice to know, as more and more outside groups want to influence local politics, how much money is coming in locally, and how much money is from the “outside.” Finally, knowing who’s in charge of the campaign effort would be nice, too.
Right now, only one group is registered to do just that. It’s Save Our Town: PC2018-01 – Save Our Town PAC – Statement of Organization. Doesn’t it make you wonder who, or what, about the others, too?
