OPINION – Trump, who ran on stopping “forever wars,” lowering prices, and “America First” just threw his campaign promises out the window by committing an unthinkable, unlawful act — attacking the sovereign nation of Venezuela with no provocation, killing 70 and kidnapping Maduro and his wife to stand trial in the US for “narco-terrorism.”

Even though Maduro is a horrible person, Trump had no legal right to do what he did. Trump’s attack violated the United Nations Charter we set up after WWII to prevent powerful nations from taking territory from weaker ones and starting another world war, considered unthinkable after nuclear weapons!

But, most importantly, his actions gave the green light to Russia and China to do likewise with Ukraine, Eastern Europe, Taiwan and others. Trump has essentially thrown out the established world order, constitutional and international laws, and returned us to “might makes right,” a certain recipe for violence! Trump is already threatening to use our soldiers’ lives to impose his might and will on Cuba, Columbia, Mexico and even Greenland. 

Think about this: The only people Trump talked to before or after the invasion were the CEOs of major oil companies — not our Congress, Senate or even the Gang of 8 who our Constitution requires Trump to consult. Apparently, oligarchs are already running our country!

Trump is playing a “game” of war and dominance with our military as fodder. His personal lust for money, power and praise and his ignorance, hubris and sense of entitlement are stunningly dangerous. Following through on taking Greenland (belonging to Denmark, a NATO ally who says Greenland isn’t for sale) would put us at war with NATO! Another world war, now with very real potential to destroy our planet?  

Who can and will stop our mad king and his inept administration before it’s too late?
