Why?

Why do some people choose to mislead?

A statement recently published in The Times implied that the Town continues to sustain itself without the need to raise taxes, continues to make improvements and continues to (you fill in the blank).

In reality, the Town continues to accomplish everything by reducing its reserve funds, by postponing needed infrastructure maintenance and by ignoring a forecasted financial shortfall.

Why is there such a disparity between misleading statements and reality?

Oh, it’s “election season” and that also must explain why there has been so much needless conversation about who said what to whom in the past. For some reason, I thought Fountain Hills was a civil community and had moved beyond smear talk. But, I guess what’s heard at the state and national levels is not enough.

On the flip side, wouldn’t it be nice to know the commitments each Town Council candidate is willing to make to address the strategic topics generated during the recent VisionFH program?

The topics are: (1) making investments in the Town’s long-term economic growth, (2) attracting more families and working professionals to the community, (3) expanding enrollment in our schools, (4) ensuring maintenance of the Town’s infrastructure, and (5) preserving the financial sustainability of Town services.

Hopefully future forums will have candidates focus on these topics and what they will do to move Fountain Hills forward, rather than talk about the past and make misleading statements.
