Mr. Yates, despite objections and questions about your resignation date to run for mayor, you have decided to thumb your nose at the electorate and deny the voters the chance to choose your replacement.
You argued to The Times that the resign to run law does not apply to your situation – Why not? You have offered no explanation for this hypocrisy. However, you did try and change the topic to criticize your opponent. What does this have to do with the basic issue that has been raised?
You decided months ago and announced your mayoral run, so there would have been plenty of time for someone to run for your spot. You even could have advocated for your choice and supported them in an election.

Instead, you have ignored and disrespected the voters and denied them the chance to elect their own representative. Why? Whose agenda are you following; yours, the council's, or ours?
This is an indication and warning of how you will behave and act as mayor. Why should we trust or even vote for you?
To restore any trust in you at all, you should resign immediately so only the voters can select your replacement. It is not too late.
