William (Bill) James Melvin, 84, born May 14, 1932, in Columbus, Ohio, passed peacefully in the hands of our Lord on June 6, 2016 in Scottsdale, Ariz. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father and friend.
Bill served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, Vietnam War and was honorably discharged after being wounded. He played for the Denver Broncos as a tight end. His career as a locksmith extended over 40 years, owning his own shop and working for others such as: Jim’s Lock & Key Shop and ASU. He was a member of ALOA and NMLA. He took pride in training others in this business and made many friends with his funny antics. He was a deacon in the Catholic Church. He enjoyed life to the fullest.
Bill is survived by his son, Patrick Melvin Haven and wife Lisa of Michigan, his stepchildren: Terri Barnes and husband Dennis of New Mexico, Eric Davis and wife MaryAnn of Arizona, Debbie Davis of Arizona, Conrad Davis and wife Diane of New Mexico and Greg Davis of New Mexico.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the long-term friendship, loving care and final arrangements made by Debra K Dehner of Fountain Hills, Ariz.
The celebration of his life was held Tuesday June 14, 2016, at All Saints Catholic Church in Mesa, Ariz., and he is interred at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Mesa
The family asks that donations be made to Hospice in Bill’s honor.
