William “Bill” McCalmont of Fountain Hills passed away peacefully on Aug. 20, 2018. Bill was born in Moon Run, Pa. on June 19, 1929 to Alexander and Mary McCalmont. He was the eldest of five children and graduated from Crafton High School in Crafton, Pa.
Following High School, Bill earned an Associate Degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa. He married his beautiful wife, Connie in 1955, shared 49 years of marriage and raised five children. Bill served his country for eight years in the United States Army Reserve while working for the Pennsylvania and Penn Central Railroads where he spent 20 years.
Bill and Connie moved the family to Scottsdale in 1971, where he started a new career in the escrow and title insurance business. Bill spent 23 years working in escrow and title before retiring from Chicago Title Insurance Company in 1994.
Bill and Connie moved to Fountain Hills in 1995 and built a home with their son, Charles. Bill had a passion for flying and held a private pilot’s license for 25 years. He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with his family at their cabin in Heber, Ariz.
Bill will be remembered by his family for his enduring faith in God and putting his family before himself. Bill is survived by his five children; Charles, Susan (Steve) Rogers, William (Julia), David (Lisa) and James (Kari), who all reside in the Valley; two sisters, Jeanne (John) Hannah of Torrance, Calif. and Carolyn (Charles) Faber of Springfield, Va.; eight grandchildren, Steven, Matt, Megan, Katy, Candace, Lily, Tatum and Paige and five great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at Church of the Ascension, Fountain Hills on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018 at 10 a.m. followed by Funeral Mass at 11 a.m.
