It was a long time coming, after months with little more than a few drops of rain falling in Fountain Hills, last week’s winter storm left more than an inch of rain across much of the town.
The Flood Control District of Maricopa County has about 10 of its ALERT weather monitoring sites scattered around Fountain Hills due to the proximity of the McDowell Mountains and array of washes running through town. In six of the seven water years (October through September) since 2017 through 2023 Fountain Hills has received more than 10 inches of rainfall.
The county has a rain gauge high in the McDowells along Cloudburst Wash, located just off the Promenade Trail at the Adero Canyon Trailhead. That site collected 1.14 inch of rain from the recent storm. Along Hesperus Wash just outside the northwest corner of the Fountain Hills boundary 1.26 inch of rain was received. Several other ALERT sites in town recorded more than an inch of rain.
