Wintry storm dampens area

The cool, damp weekend was a reminder that we are heading into the winter months, and long-range forecasts suggest it could be a wet season ahead.

The Maricopa County Flood Control District rain gauges in Fountain Hills collected rainfall amounts ranging from a quarter to one-third inches. The greatest amount for those monitoring stations was .35-inch along McDowell Mountain Road just north of town. The Fountain Hills Fire Station on Palisades Boulevard received .31-inch.

The rain gauge outside The Times office on Laser Drive had about .50-inch.

The cool, damp weekend was a reminder that we are heading into the winter months, and long-range forecasts suggest it could be a wet season ahead.

The Maricopa County Flood Control District rain gauges in Fountain Hills collected rainfall amounts ranging from a quarter to one-third inches. The greatest amount for those monitoring stations was .35-inch along McDowell Mountain Road just north of town. The Fountain Hills Fire Station on Palisades Boulevard received .31-inch.

The rain gauge outside The Times office on Laser Drive had about .50-inch.

The county monitoring sites received more than an inch of rainfall in higher elevations north of Fountain Hills near Sunflower. Payson was receiving snow Sunday and Monday.

The overnight low for Fountain Hills on Monday to Tuesday morning is forecast to be 40 degrees, however the National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for areas of southwest Gila County and far northeast Maricopa County.
