I support Gerry Friedel for mayor because of the things he has not done.

We have all seen Gerry at every event the town has presented, whether it was at Fountain Park, one of the other parks, on the Avenue or simply an opening of a new business. We all know he has never missed a council meeting and has always been a strong voice for fiscal responsibility.

However, what I appreciate most is what he hasn’t done. He hasn’t supported building a four-lane roundabout on Avenue of the Fountains and Saguaro, or another one at La Montana and Palisades. He hasn’t supported building a bridge and viewing area across Saguaro to Fountain Park. He hasn’t supported waiving several zoning laws so a high-density apartment building could be built in the Target plaza. He didn’t support the rezoning of the entire plaza for apartment buildings. He didn’t support putting a million-dollar stop light at Palisades and Eagle Ridge. He didn’t support having lax rules for sober homes. He didn’t support giving utilities the right to place ugly communications towers on every right-of-way in the community. He didn’t support lax rules on urban camping and panhandling. He did not approve of people who were not contract negotiation experts negotiating the town’s disastrous contract with MCSO.

If you love Fountain Hills like I do, I think you will agree less is more. Let’s spend our money and our time improving our town, not trying to turn it into Tempe, Mesa, Scottsdale or Phoenix. Gerry is the right choice.
