Work underway on major flood control project in Fountain Hills

Improvements at Golden Eagle Park detention basin

Visitors to Golden Eagle Park will notice a lot of work going on with the onset of the New Year.

A contractor has begun construction for improvements to the flood control detention basin behind the Golden Eagle Park Dam. The town has awarded a $2.4 million professional services agreement to B4 Enterprises, Inc., for the work. This total includes $200,000 in an owners allowance for potential unforeseen expenses. The council also approved an additional $262,000 to Wood Patel & Associates for construction management on the project.

Major storms in 2018 and again in 2019 resulted in major flooding behind the dam and more than a million dollars in damage to park facilities. Since the flood events, the town has been working on smaller projects to avert similar damage, but has always had the goal of the accomplish the major construction at the site.
