Worn out

Saguaro Blvd. is worn out; it is well beyond the end of its life-cycle.

Because of this the town has been forced to spend many thousands of scarce taxpayer dollars to glue pieces of the pavement together and fix pot holes, and yet Saguaro continues to deteriorate. Unfortunately Band-Aids are not the solution; the street will not magically heal itself.

Throughout my engineering career I observed that roads and infrastructure wear out no matter how well they are designed, constructed and maintained (and in my professional opinion, in the last two years the town staff has done a commendable job holding Saguaro together).

But now the community must take a very critical step in order to stop the costly maintenance bleeding; it must approve the pending $8.2 million bond issue.

To maintain Fountain Hills’ great appeal it takes a community working in harmony. Retaining and enhancing the value of our homes is heavily dependent on “curb appeal” and smooth, well maintained streets are a significant part of the picture.

Look around, Fountain Hills is showing its age; we need to reinvest in our town in order to maintain the value of our own investments. Deteriorated streets speak volumes about our commitment to our community. Would you move to a town that appears run down?

I urge you to vote “for the bonds” in our upcoming election. The time has come to fix Saguaro the right way; Saguaro needs to be replaced.
