Yes on tax

The outcome of last week’s Town Council meeting was incredible! The need for a primary property tax has been obvious for years. In fact, the Council was presented with information 10 years ago that showed that Fountain Hills would run out of money in 2017 and still they relied on hopes and dreams to avoid the inevitable.

A total of 91 percent of the participants of the 2016 Vision Fountain Hills workshop supported “Implementing a Primary Property Tax” as a potential revenue solution. The town’s people were asking to be taxed and yet, all through the election, our local candidates insisted that there was no need for a primary property tax.

Instead of doing the responsible thing, Art Tolis, Cecil Yates and Mayor Kavanagh spent months working on a crazy scheme to build a lagoon in order to draw visitors here to spend some money. Spending $38,000 of taxpayer’s money was not fiscally responsible and none of these representatives displayed the kind of leadership that this town needs.

Let’s all get behind a “yes” for a primary property tax, but don’t forget the irresponsibility of our “leaders” in the next elections.
