Ten members of the Youth Mission Team from the Fountains United Methodist Church in Fountain Hills recently made a mission trip to San Diego and border communities.

The youth and their adult drivers/chaperones spent a week with other youth to make a difference in the lives of people they worked with while completing repair projects for the elderly and clean-up/environmental projects in San Diego Canyonlands.

Participating youth learned about border and immigration issues from both sides of the border. They met with a Border Community Liaison Agent, a United Methodist Global Mission Fellow who lives and works in Tijuana, and two pastors who serve with El Faro Border Church and work with deportees and migrants.

They also enjoyed nightly activities including a BBQ and swimming in Mission Bay.

The Youth Mission Team included Bruce Ferguson, Margie Ferguson, Nat Felten, Mattie Felten, Rosalee DeMent, Lucas Elwood, Mason Yates, Magnifique Ishimwe, Yousif Lami, and Mignone Gikundiro, with their chaperones Dave Ragan and David Felten.
