With about 11 weeks remaining before the May 15 primary property tax vote, residents still have plenty of time to dig into the facts and make up their mind concerning the measure. For our part, coverage in The Times will ramp up in order to address the property tax from multiple angles.

If you missed this week’s 1A story, we cover the ins and outs of the property tax on a basic level, looking at everything from perceived need to how the tax would potentially impact things like streets, facilities and public safety. We will be digging into those areas on a more granular level as the series continues.

You’ll also find voting information within that story, and a helpful letter from Susan Mapes in this week’s issue outlines the steps necessary for part-time residents to have their vote counted.

Alongside our 1A coverage of the property tax are instructions for residents who want to know exactly what the tax would cost on an annual basis. There are factors that would impact this cost in the coming years but, for now, this is the best method for residents to learn how much they can expect to pay based on their limited property value. Divide whatever result you get by 12 if you wish to know what the tax would cost on a monthly basis.
