Mary Ann McPhee Bosnos

Mary Ann, 73, died on May 12, 2024 at Fountain Hills, Arizona. She was the beloved wife of Charles “Chuck” Bosnos of Fountain Hills; daughter of the late Mary Catherine (Lytton) and Vincent McPhee; devoted sister of Carolyn McPhee Porter (Tom) of Palmer, Alaska and David Lytton McPhee (Carol) of Manitou Springs, Colorado; and cherished aunt of Jennifer Porter Bailey, Tiffany McPhee Brickell, Karen Bosnos Houghton, Lydia Bosnos Maglathlin, Nicholas Hayes and Andrew Hayes.
Mary Ann was born in San Diego, California and grew up in Ada, Oklahoma. She was accepted into the Baylor University premed program at age 17, but instead entered the Baylor School of Music. She graduated with honors from Baylor as a voice and piano major and went on to do postgraduate work in music at the University of Arizona, where she also taught on the vocal faculty. She met Chuck Bosnos while in Tucson and, after their marriage in 1977, moved with him to Southern California, where they remained until returning to Arizona and settling in Fountain Hills in 2002.
She grew up strongly influenced by the great traditional music of the church and had a deep love of music. She taught voice and piano and performed in the Los Angeles area for many years. She served on the boards of several Southern California arts organizations and created and produced a successful vocal recital series that showcased rising young classical singers.
Mary Ann was a skilled editor, and she stepped away from her music career for several years to do technical editing. During this time, she was founding and senior editor of the medical journal Contemporary Orthopaedics and was also a freelance editor of medical research articles.
After moving to Arizona, she created Green Desert Botanicals, which produced handcrafted, desert-inspired potpourris for several years. At the time of her death she was training to become a certified clinical aromatherapist.
She prized learning, loved reading, old movies, and traveling. She additionally enjoyed gardening and volunteering in the community. She served on the board of the Neighborhood Property Owners’ Association of Fountain Hills for several years, two years as president.
Mary Ann will be remembered for her beautiful singing and piano playing, an irrepressible sense of humor, and her generous spirit.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 pm on Thursday May 23 at Messinger Mortuary, 12065 N. Saguaro Blvd., Fountain Hills. Mary Ann’s ashes will be spread at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Samaritanspurse.org or JoyChurchAZ.com.
