The Fountain Hills Art League chose Mary Ann Grace at its October meeting as the winner of its summer art project.
The summer project theme was “Children” and how they experience life. Artists were allowed to choose whichever medium they wished.
Grace chose to submit her portrait painting, “Four Going on Fourteen” of her granddaughter.
“My granddaughter loved to play dress up. There are so many special details and memories in this painting for me, too. I wore that pink dress to her parents’ wedding, the 100-year-old mirror is a family heirloom and the Cabbage Patch doll next to the mirror was her favorite. This painting will now hang in the bedroom of my two great granddaughters,” Grace said.
Each year, summer league members are invited to create an art project around a specific theme announced at the spring Art League meeting and in the monthly newsletter. Summer projects are brought to the October meeting for voting, and the winner receives a small monetary prize.
The artist must be present at the October meeting to win but artwork is not eligible for Artist of the Year. In case of a tie, the monies are split.
