Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Matthew Seidel wants Fountain Hills residents to know that they don’t have to leave town to seek medical attention for things like joint pain, tendinitis, golf/tennis elbow, arthritis pain and more.
Working with Specialty Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Seidel spends much of his professional time operating out of his Scottsdale office, but he also works out of his local office the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. His office is part of the medical campus near downtown, located at 16838 E. Palisades Blvd., Suite 152A.
While he’s been in town a few years, Seidel said many are still unaware of the services available in their own community.

“Our whole group offers just about everything related to orthopedic surgery,” Seidel explained. “From sports medicine, joint replacement and broken bones to injuries and wound management.
“Personally, I’m more focused on three things these days. That includes hip, knee and shoulder replacement, stem cell treatment for arthritis and I also have a specialty in orthopedic tumors and cancers; which means bone tumors, muscle tumors and cancers and things like that.”
Seidel’s main office is on 91st street, near HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center and, even though that’s not too far a drive out of town, he said he likes to bring his services directly to Fountain Hills.
“I have a lot of patients and friends from Fountain Hills, actually,” Seidel said. “Dr. [Matthew] Hummel and I had known each other for a while and we also work closely with 4C Medical Group, so it was a good place to come and work side by side both in the hospital and here.”
Seidel said that his time in the community has been great, and he especially likes the local office because it gives him the ability to “spread the time out a bit more.” Rather than the flood of activity at the main office, he gets to spend more one-on-one time with his patients in a quieter atmosphere here in town.
“Also, it’s nice having someone they can come and see right here in Fountain Hills,” Seidel said. “We’ve already helped a lot of patients and we’ve become a good little team.”
As for local patients, Seidel said the area is home to a lot of active, retired residents.
“They’re dealing with the aches and pains that come with being more active at a little bit older age,” Seidel said. “The biggest theme is getting people back to the active lifestyle they want to lead. Sometimes that’s a cortisone shot, sometimes it’s a little bit of physical therapy and occasionally it’s surgery.”
Seidel said that his patients are sometimes surprised when he prescribes things like chiropractic care or more naturopathic approaches rather than going with over the counter prescriptions.
“I often get a weird look when I prescribe a supplement or herb,” Seidel said. “Most of [my work] is geared toward reducing inflammation and controlling pain, which allows people to stay active. The things we have work fine, but there are also things that can help the process along. Ibuprofen is good, but ibuprofen plus turmeric, arnica and maybe some chiropractic manipulation might make that way, way better.
“We just want to reduce their discomfort so they can have a better quality of life. The more ways you can come at that, the more you can improve it.”
Dr. Seidel’s local hours are 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. He can be reached at 602-258-8500. For more information, visit orthosurgeryaz.com.
“I think outside the box,” Seidel said. “For people who have maybe tried other places and other techniques and they aren’t getting the results, I pride myself on digging deeper and figuring things out. And we do it right here.”
