The local nonprofit cat rescue Fearless Kitty Rescue was highlighted at Phoenix Animal Care Coalition 911’s annual Glimmer of Hope event on Sunday, Nov. 16, at the Arizona Biltmore when one of its former rescues, a cat named Kitty, was featured as an Animal Ambassador.

Fearless Kitty Rescue often partners with PACC911, which provides emergency medical funding through its Critical Care Program, according to a press release. Each Animal Ambassador at the event represents a pet saved through that program. Including Kitty, there were 12 Animal Ambassadors at the Glimmer of Hope event.

Kitty’s journey began when she and her mother were abandoned at a boarding facility, the release said. After Fearless Kitty Rescue took them in, Kitty became critically ill with severe anemia.

With funding from PACC911, she received lifesaving treatment and slowly recovered. Volunteers spent weeks socializing her until she was ready for adoption.

Among those volunteers were Mike and Angelo Latko, a father-and-son team who bonded with Kitty during their shifts. Angelo ultimately adopted her, and she now rules the household.

“The family hierarchy has changed since bringing Kitty home,” Mike Latko said. “She’s at the top, Angelo is next, and I’m way at the bottom.”

Kitty’s story demonstrates how Fearless Kitty Rescue and PACC911 work together to save animals with nowhere else to turn.
