Two local churches are rallying around those in need of hydration in this sizzling summer heat.
Both the Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church and the Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills are collecting water, asking the community to help quench the thirst of those living on the streets.
Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church (FHPC) is continuing its Code: Red Water Drive to support Phoenix Rescue Missions’ goal to distribute one million water bottles this summer.
Last summer, 645 lives were lost due to the extreme heat which is 52% over the year before, according to a press release.
The Code: Red Summer Heat Relief campaign ends July 31.
Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills is also collecting cases of bottled water to support the work of St. Vincent de Paul in ensuring homeless individuals living in Phoenix are hydrated during the summer heat.
According to St. Vincent de Paul Chapter President Ed Merkle, the water is being collected to provide water to both families and individuals.
St. Vincent de Paul plans to pick up the cases of water Sunday, July 21.
Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church is located at 13001 N. Fountain Hills Blvd. Community members can drop off water at the FHPC front office, contribute directly to Phoenix Rescue or support FHPC financially by putting “Code Red” on the memo of a check. Church of the Ascension is located at 12615 N. Fountain Hills Blvd. where donors can bring cases of water to the church's parish office from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
