Peak Dermatology Aesthetics and Wellness is the newest dermatology clinic to enter Fountain Hills, welcoming new patients to its location in the Fountain Hills Medical Campus off Palisades Blvd.

Led by Dr. Christopher Rex, FAAD, MD, a board-certified Dermatologist and Mohs Micrographic Surgeon, Peak Dermatology has seven exam rooms, a Mohs laboratory and a dedicated staff that provides an array of services to patients in the areas of medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology.

Peak Dermatology specializes in caring for patients with conditions of the skin, hair and nails like eczema, psoriasis and acne along with other services like skin cancer screening, laser hair removal and even a specialized weight-loss program.

As a Mohs surgeon, Rex is trained in offering a highly specialized surgical procedure used to treat patients with skin cancer that involves removing very thin layers of skin in an affected area and examining each layer under a microscope for signs of cancer cells.

Within the next few weeks, Peak Dermatology will begin offering Superficial Radiation Therapy, a non-invasive method of treating skin cancers that employs X-ray radiation to neutralize skin cancer without the need for cutting the skin or using injections.

“I have patients who hate needles who say, ‘Doc, I don’t want to get cut, I don’t want to get injections, I just want to be in and out in ten minutes,’” Rex said.

Peak Dermatology also offers cosmetic services like Botox, fillers, liposuction and Morpheus8 microneedling, a fractional skin treatment that stimulates collagen through radiofrequency.

Rex completed an internship in internal medicine at St. Luke’s Bethlehem University Hospital in Pennsylvania and eventually trained at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, where he published numerous journal articles focused on Acral Lentiginous Melanoma and was awarded best dermatology resident by the graduate medical education program.

Rex is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology with a medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.

Since he started seeing patients last December, Rex has also begun offering presentations around the community about the importance of skincare and common things one might find on their skin.

Location, location, location

When Rex heard about and began researching Fountain Hills as a place to set up his practice, he found it to be an underserved area when it came to dermatological care.

“It’s a giant step for Fountain Hills,” Rex said. “Based on the demand here, our goal is to be as available as possible in offering Mohs, Superficial Radiation and a ton of cosmetic offerings.”

Peak Dermatology in Fountain Hills is one of three locations owned by Rex. The other locations include Visalia, Calif., and Payson, Ariz.

Rex is joined by Certified Physician’s Assistant Matthew Lamca and Family Nurse Practitioner Cami Alexander along with six highly skilled staff members in Fountain Hills.

With the growth of private equity-owned Dermatology clinics around the country, Rex said it’s all the more important to have a clinic that puts patient care first.

“I know how private equity Dermatology groups run and I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be nice to be a community dermatologist here where I actually get to know my patients?’” Rex said.

Peak Dermatology also hosts medical students, resident doctors, nurse practitioners and physician assistants to increase their knowledge of dermatology, aesthetics and wellness.

Peak Dermatology will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, June 27, at 5 p.m. at the Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce inviting all to attend.
