The local Friends in the Hills Women’s Club has been beating the heat with activities scheduled throughout the summer.

Club President Maryann O’Connor and the board who oversees the events are pleased by the number of attendees, according to a press release.

A new event, “Ladies Night Out,” has been started by members Susan Slapke and Sheri McCurdy. The event is the last Monday of each month from 4 to 6 p.m. and includes raffles, food and entertainment like dancing at the We-Ko-Pa Grille.

In July, there was a line dancing lesson given by members Billie Jon King and Mary Courtney. The floor was filled with new line dancers who caught on quickly, ending with some freestyle dancing to music of the ‘70s.

Events that are happening this summer are monthly luncheons, book club, coffee get-togethers, art painting classes, Mah Jongg, bridge, poker, Texas Hold’em, golf, knitting and crochet, Bunco, bowling, Scrabble, tennis, sip n’ swirl happy hour and go to lunch bunch.

Other events that are offered in the winter months include hiking (short and long), beading, movie days, theater, evening socials, birthday parties, shopping outings and lunch and mountain biking.
