Louis Conrad Gilroy

Louis Conrad Gilroy, after a long illness, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 7, 2018. Lou was born in Annapolis, Md. on Oct. 20, 1929. He grew up in the shadow of the U.S. Capital in Washington D.C.

After Lou and Dagni were married, they moved to Virginia, and then in 2010 they moved to Fountain Hills. Lou retired from Verizon with 38 years of service. Prior to going to work for Verizon, he served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during the Korean conflict.

Lou loved helping people. He was a member of the Lions Club serving as District Governor of 24-A of Virginia. He was a Life Member of Lions Club International and a Life Member of the Lions of Virginia. He was a Melvin Jones Fellow and a Kentucky Colonel. He was past president of the Blue Ridge Council of the Telephone Pioneers.

Lou is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Edward, Leonard, Beamer and John. Lou is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dagni; son, Leonard and his wife, Arwynn; and four grandchildren, and god son, John Bennett.

A visitation was held on Thursday, May 10, at Green Acres Mortuary and Cemetery, 401 N Hayden Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85257. Services followed.
