The annual January Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction at Westworld is synonymous with the sale of collector vehicles bearing price tags of thousands to multi-millions of dollars.
Although the high-end luxury and exotic autos gain the public’s attention, many affordable cars slip across the auction block.
Local car collector Drew Timm consigned his 2002 Mazda Miata MX-5 white convertible to Barrett-Jackson.
“It was a fun car to drive,” said Timm, “I didn’t have it very long because it’s a little too small for me.”
The Miata had 54,760 miles on it and had been a second-home snowbird car most of its life. The car was equipped with 5-speed manual transmission, power steering, power brakes, power windows and mirrors, rear window defroster and air conditioning.
The car sold for $7,000 on Monday, Jan. 14.
“I’m happy with the $7,000 hammer price,” said Timm.
He has owned at one time as many as 16 vehicles, ranging from Porsche, Corvette and Volkswagen, and bid on several early in the week.
“It’s very exciting to be a part of the auction. Barrett-Jackson Co. does a great job in orchestrating such a massive event. That’s why we keep returning year after year,” said Timm.
