Verde volunteers dedicate 27th home for Habitat

A life-changing event occurred Saturday, Aug. 24, when Djbril Cissouma and his daughter, Farimata were welcomed to their new home on Roosevelt Street in Tempe with a dedication ceremony.
The home was built with the sponsorship of the Verde Communities volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat for Humanity of Central Arizona representatives along with the volunteer team from the Verdes gathered to dedicate the home for the Cissoumas with a celebration.
“Owning a Habitat home will totally change my life,” Cissouma said. “I will be able to save more money where I will be able to go back to school, spend more time with my daughter, Farimata, and be more financially stable. And coming from Mali, being able to practice our family traditions of connection and celebration.”
The Verde Communities got together more than a quarter century ago to begin their volunteer efforts for Habitat for Humanity. They have funded and provided construction help for 28 homes in the Valley and plans are underway to build a 29th home beginning this fall.
