Joe E. Zeigler 64, a retired Firefighter/EMT and masonry contractor, died unexpectedly Friday, Nov. 24, 2017 after receiving treatment for an infection at Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott.

Joe was born on Jan. 27, 1953 in Scottsdale and lived his entire life here residing in Phoenix, Fountain Hills and most recently Prescott.

Joe is survived by his ex-wife, Linda Sundeen; his children, Christina, Robert (Candace), and Tara(Dustin); his siblings, Billie, Eddie, Ricky, and Ruby; his grandchildren, Kaitlynn, Cody, Haydn, Blane, Brandon, and baby Sylus; his extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends and his best friend John Young. He is predeceased by his father, Robert L. Zeigler; his step-father, Stan Rairdan; and his mother, Willa Hemphill Zeigler Rairdan.

Joe attended Sunnyslope High School in Phoenix. He then continued his education in the construction industry learning the masonry trade. Joe obtained his contractor’s license and then started his own company; Roadrunner Construction.

After many years he went back to school in the fire science field where he received his EMT, Haz-Mat First Responder, and Firefighter I&II certifications. Joe worked for Rural/Metro Fire Department from 1988-1995 where he absolutely loved his job and made many great friends.

After Rural/Metro he continued on in the construction industry until retiring in 2008.

Joe was a devoted father and a very artistic man. He loved to do arts and crafts projects in his garage or shed and enjoyed making things for family/friends.

He also had a passion for the outdoors and would love to fish, hunt, or just enjoy nature. He was a spiritual man and an avid Lutheran. He was proud to be a big part of Trinity Lutheran Church and one of the founding members while residing in Fountain Hills. He will be so deeply missed by family, friends and anyone who had a chance to know him.

A memorial service honoring Joe was held Monday, Dec. 4, at Horizon Funeral Care 7510 E. Main St. Mesa, AZ 85207. Flowers, donations and condolences may be offered at Horizon Funeral Care.
