Native American Heritage Month celebrated

A celebration of Native American Heritage Month will kick off the Second Saturday Arts on the Desert Gallery on the Way on the campus of Saint Anthony on the Desert Episcopal Church.
The opening reception is Saturday, Oct. 14, from 2-4 p.m. The event is free, and all are invited to attend.
Arizona is home to 22 distinct tribal communities, each with its own language, customs, social and political practices. Saint Anthony is built upon the homeland of the ancestral Huhugam, contemporary Akimel O’odham, Pee Posh and Yavapai communities.
In partnership with Cook Native American Ministries Foundation, Saint Anthony presents artwork from a variety of Native artists who represent tribes from Arizona and across the country.
The works in this exhibition celebrate the expressions and interpretations of contemporary indigenous identities as artists use their work to teach others about cultural commonalities and differences, a press release read.
The Gallery on the Way is located at Saint Anthony on the Desert Episcopal Church, 12990 E. Shea Blvd., and is open by appointment, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
